The story of West Virginia’s opioid crisis is as sad as it is long. Most of us, me included, can say that we have been personally touched by opioid use disorder (OUD).
Many Mountaineer families have been destroyed in this crisis.
Children have been uprooted and placed in foster homes, many out of state.
A significant number of grandparents in our state are raising their grandchildren and, in some cases, their great grandchildren.
This crisis has resulted in thousands of deaths and thousands more people working their way toward recovery.
It has devested entire cities and regions of our beloved state.
The road to recovery is long, but it is one we must travel.
And on this road, we are making gains.
